Rim Decision - 08-02-2008, 04:57 PM

Ive been killing myself over decideing between these two rims, so i thought you guys could help me out.

#1 :
18x8
Price: 939$ ( set of 4)

#2 :
18x8 et 35
Price: 649$ (set of 4)
Its not going to be staggered.

Both are replicas.

My car btw is Barolo red with the updated cladding, like a darkish red similar to Alamandine red. Im most likely going to be dropping it on FK springs, if i can find them....

Monoblock, because its cheaper and its better looking.

It's personal choice, but....
I cringe at 18" on w201. Don't think the body style and chassis size supports this.
Cladding helps, but I just don't see it.
Would like to know your choice of rubber.
And I cringe at slammed.
Love alamandine red.

To know my bias...
I'm back-and-forth on this 17" SLK (17.5 et37) in my inventory or retaining an 16" Evo1 knock-off.

Nice thing about your monoblock option is that it picks up the fake bolt cues as on the SLK wheel and it has some lip (at least in the 9" photo).
I think this is important because the wheel should match the aggresive intention of a cladded w201 (ala 16V).
The 5-spoke is a little too clean and flush.

Option 1 looks alright. Personally I think the style is a bit bland. I vote for option 2.

Go with the machined monoblocks. Theyre gorgeous.

wait I take that back... Mike. youre in Markham.. Where are the monoblocks? I think they'd look nicer on my car.

Seriously though, I'm in the market for a nice set of summer rims so if you know of any extras in that style, pm me with the details.

The SL style Mono's always look great (I've seen em on a 500e and a C36 and both looked amazing). That said, it would be interesting to see the CLS wheels on a w201.

BTW, there is a guy over on 500ecstasy that is selling an original (read: not replicas) set of those monos. 2k was the last price I saw, which is a damn good deal. Not that reps aren't good wheels.....the w201 has been on reps for about 5 or 6 years now and I haven't had any problems, short of a little peeling of the protective coating they had (some substitute for clearcoat). Not to mention that reps do make more sense for most w201's since the car itself is generally only worth about twice the price or less of some wheels.

I like no. 1 but I think no. 2 would suit a 201 better...

Number two... I'm too glued to having the MB emblem advertised after all the money spent. lol And they would better suit the w201.

I'm going against the crowd and am going to vote #1. I like to be able to see the rotors/calipers behind the wheel while driving.

You realize the MB center cap is removable and is universal for all MB/AMG wheels (which both these are reps of), right?
