I read somewhere that the computer increases revs when the aircon is switched on, or when there is any similar 'drain' on power either by the alternator, ie lights and wipers, or by the aircon etc.
So I will have to have it I suppose. I will have to tap and thread a hole in the plate I just made, so that I can access the inlets like before, and then put in a long.......30cm...?...pipe to the air filter. 60mm PVC drain pipe will do with maybe a bend or three, "bit of gold paint, couple of feathers....make good, you know what I mean?" (Compliments of Monty Python.)
There is a lot of room since the old system is gone so I should be O.K....
Was yours a megasquirt too? The BMW I had was L-jetronic ex Nissan.
Cheers

O.K.so a length of aluminium channeling....'C' section 1" fits over the hoses and clamps, and can be held down to the inlets with a couple of springs. looks good too. Looks like a proper fuel rail...Duh!
Problem solved quick and cheap.

Cheers.

Some photos of the fuel rail holder.
This has been a really easy (but fiddly) way to do the fuel rail.
Whilst I dont mind spending money, I am never happy to spend when I can do something myself.
Cheers,

Saving money on the fuel rail was a good idea because it will leave some extra cash for a good fire suppression system...........believe me, you may need one with all those (oi vey !! 20 +) hose clamps.

i don't about the 2.3 8v engine. But for 2.3 16 V we can use Saab fuel rail. So may be ...(i cant sure ) Saab fuel rail will fit on 8v too... but need to check and make sure first. But I remember, the silverworth fuel rail can fit both 2.3 16v and 8 v engine......If so,you can save alot of money and work more nice then using fuel hose and hose clamp ...(i think). Hope this can help

Hey Bob,
I hear you. But the fuel rail uses a friction fit with an o'ring and a machined face. The fuel hose and 'barbed fittings' compressed with a stainless steel hose clamp are far superior and the chances of a leak and fire are absolutely nil.
I can use the funds I save for more serious stuff, like a wideband O2 sensor and intereface.

I like the Yiddish approach to life......"Oi Vey, get me a lawyer already!"
and that should be "L'Chaim" (to life!).....

But yeah, that's a serious number of hose clamps. 24 if you count the fuel regulator and the fuel return connections. I still think they are better. You have to use them eventually anyhow on some connections, just make sure you dont make them too tight! Also it would be nice if I could get the all stainless ones....so few outlets carry them.

Cheers and thanks for the input. Meshuganah

Hello Bassist. You want to estimate how long it took to clean this thing up?
It does look good. Thats what I want. It must at least look great even if it doesnt work!

Yeah, I know, I know......

Cheers, Meshuganah (famous last words.)

Saab 900 2.3-16 arround 1988... not sure about the year break but arround those years.

it will fit the 2.3-8 too since the cylinder spacing is the same at the 2.3-16 (same block, remember)

dunno about the BMW rail tho, i think someone said it did'nt work but maybe just did'nt get the right year.

i did use a similar thing just to check how bad was the oem intake but i did'nt use it for my intake mod because could'nt cut enough anyway since i wanted to keep oem plenum.

On another subject, i removed the OLD oem catalytic converters this w-e cuz they were blocked and i just got rewarded with a LOT more power !!!!!

Since it had EFI, it felt strong, but not much more than it was with oem injection even when it worked right (and cats not blocked). But now that i removed the cats, OMG, it's so tham fast, it's just incredible. It feels like a rocket!

EFI IS the way to go absolutely for anyone looking for performance.... And shortened or custom intake manifolds too cuz if i remember well, Canada011's car was not that fast and also had EFI (but only gutted the AFM instead of removing it completely and stock intake) Will def have to try both cars side by side to compare. Also faster than a euro.
