Back on the road again.... - 10-23-2008, 07:54 PM

It's finally getting to where it's actually fun to drive....throttle adjustment is now completed, need to change clutch again and put the 3.2 set up in instead of the 16V clutch assemby, and need to replace a magnet on the flywheel..figure it got lost in the lightening process by PO.

Car looks quite a bit lighter in the sunlight than it does most of the time. Closer to the 199 pearl black than it appears in the bright sunlight.

Included some close ups of the wheel wells so that the ride height is clearly visible...this is with the FK spring / Billie sport shock set up.

Looks great! I have always loved this car. Love the Wald kit and love the c-class hood. Thanks for spending so much time and money on this car. It is nice to see that you have taken the time to properly repair it. It would be a shame if it deteriorated into oblivion (evoIIha.. UberE500's old car ). Keep up the great work and keep us posted.

I love the stance, which of the two FK springs did you get?

Looking for better springs than my current Vogtland setup on my 2.6. Need something waaayyyy stiffer.

35 mm drop springs....it is very stiff.

And PS..it was not me who spent all the money..although the bill is climbing...Most of my expenses have been to get the trans, clutch and engine running properly..gas mileage was running 8 - 12 mpg when I first got it.

It is only up to maybe 14 - 18 mpg now, but with the new magnet to get the crank sensor working properly and the advance working like it should...that should improve some more. Given that the car was built by someone else and is a custom installation, diagnosis of problems is a bit tricky...since we cannot even access the person who built it. I will say the guy who built it did a pretty nice job on the engine installation though. It appears also that this car may have a lightened flywheel, although I can only confirm this once the clutch is back out.

The car has a rear end from a 16V automatic, so the final drive ratio is pretty high...car probably has a top speed of maybe 120, but it definitely gets there in a hurry. With the power. torque and lightened fywheel (I believe it is), the rev limiter come up really fast in first and second. But with these lower ratio's I am not sure my gas economy will ever be "normal" for the weight and power of the car.

I have to give a lot of credit to my local tech who has been better than most I have found in diagosing faults.

Cleaned up, it get's it's fair share of comments.

I think I am gonna try and order some of those Springs.

I really hope they are very stiff. These Vogtlands aren't stiff enough.

Edit: To Confirm, are these the springs?

Yes that appears to be what's on the car. The car is almost bouncy...but very stiff..also has limo front anti-sway (28.5 mm) and 16V rear anti - sway which adds a bit to the feel of stiffness...I have been wrestling with the thought of putting adjustable Koni's on it to help modulate the rebound....currently has Billie sports.
