1991 190E 2.0 AMG - 04-25-2006, 10:04 PM

Hi guys, I am soon going to be a w201 190 owner. I'm a 560SEL(w126) guy... but since I find myself spending more time in Europe than back home in the states, I'm in the process of picking up a smaller sportier car. I left deposit and will be picking up my new ride this week.

This is a real AMG...not one with wheels or an AMG sticker put on some place. The original owner on the copy of the old registration papers was the AMG factory itself. It was serviced at the dealership from new to 2004... from then it was imported into Poland(privately) where I am now in process of purchasing the car from the individual who imported the car for himself. I am not too familiar with the 201's to be frank... I simply took the car to a mechanic to check engine compression and for any signs of oil leakage, etc. It checked back fine.

Here are the basics for the car...

190E 2.0 (m102)
black metalic 199 on dark cloth seats(checkered pattern)
5-speed manual
electric sunroof
ASD limited slip differential
Full body AMG kit.. includes the 3 piece "ducktail" spoiler as seen on w126's as well.
Period AMG exhaust (stamped "AMG" not "///AMG")
Suspension also said to be AMG... will try to get confirmation of it,too.. however the rear shocks have been replaced recently with non-AMG shocks(extremely difficult to find/purchase any old AMG part)

I will have pictures later once I get the car and give it a wash... had lots of bug splatter at the front of car when I saw it.

There are several things I'd like to do to the car however..
The tow-hook cover is MIA. This is to the front spoiler with lights built in. Anyone know of a replacement source or where a copy can be made?

The car has a set of Momo wheels that are in very nice shape... but I preffer to have original AMG wheels. The problem with the momo is that it rubs when turned too much left or right.

The entire car is dechromed except for the grill... I will have the grill painted to match.

The car has smoked tail lights... don't know if this was an AMG option or a popular aftermarket stuff? Because of this.. Poland requires all tinted/darkened tail lights to have red reflectors put on under neath. This is not attractive looking, but I am thinking of putting in stock lights in place.

The inside of the car has lots of wood.. more so than any other w201 I've seen... and this car is only a 2.0. Could the wood(zebrano) be AMG? Its on all 4 doors, under instrument cluster and over the glove box.

Besides the 3 things I am looking to do...(tow hook cover for AMG bumper, replacement wheels, OE tail light replacement).. I will hope to have many good years with this car as a daily driver.

Once I get any pictures... I will post them here.

Welcome to the Rev!!

Another AMG! :)

The tail lights are aftermarket. Replace with originals. Much nicer in my opinion...

Once you post pics we can see what is AMG and what is not and what is aftermarket and what is not.

Sounds like you have the same AMG kit as me (Gen II).
The tow hook covers are extremely scarce. Almost immpossible to find...

Gtmash had the same problem I think...

If you wanna see my car click on the link in my signature...

Looking forward to seeing pics!!

EDIT:

Here are some of the pics of his AMG... :)

The rest can be found on his forum - Classic AMG Forum

Hi Joburger... I actually saw your car online before registering to the forum.
Its the same style bodykit, but unlike your 3 piece duck tail... the AMG on mine is the old style and is stamped into the spoiler.

I found a car online that has the exact same look...

The only difference is mine has smoked front corners, darkened tail lights and momo wheels.

That one looks nice too. Is the same as mine, but is monotone instead of two tone...

Hope yours doesn't have the window deflector things. Hate those things.

That one is from Japan?

Was it for sale? Details please!

One thing maybe someone can answer...

checking the VIN on the Russian VIN site... I got this :
"Dealer authorities sales / inland shares sales MBAG (282)"

Usually it shows the city of where the car was sold in.

Also, I have option 244 which says "sports seats front"... is this the so-called "sportsline interior" I hear of?

Yep. After two years of searching, I just got the whole grille section cut out and had a shiny black mesh put in, with the rest of the hole molded to match.

You asking me Chuni?

I paid R80000 (US$13300) 3 or 4 years ago with 80000km on the clock.
I can now get at least R90000 ($15000) for it with 125000km on the clock... :D
It's not for sale...

201AMG - Where are the pics of your car?
Remember that if you do post them, keep them somewhere on your pc so that you can repost them, as everything posted now will be lost after May 5th... :(
