cutting out low idle - 10-09-2007, 08:56 PM

this is my first post sorry about the intensity

i have a 1991 2.0l 8v 190

when i fisrt got the car a year ago it had an idle fault would not idle from cold for first few minuets then would be ok untill hot and it would cut out and would not restart for about a couple of hours then would just go first time

i have tested the afm and readjusted and tested all sensors and voltages and tested cold start valve icv all vacuum hoses tested idle switch everything seems ok i have tried replacement fuel pump relay and ovp but still low idle and stalls and then when hot cutts out

i have had to re adjust the idle to make it idle by mixture screw but now idle is all over the place some times its high 2500 or higher or just wants to die

also when first got car had no window or heater illumination and on full right lock low brake pad warning illuminates and clock gave up a few months age but then just come back on and sometimes feels like a misfire

also car interferes with neighbours and my tv

any ideas cause im out of them

Sounds like you need new spark plugs, distributer/rotor and wires. Especially wires. You seem to be getting electrical interference from them. Could also explain your low erratic idle.

wires = leads.

The leads have a core that causes electrical interference if the sheathing over the wire is really old and worn.

There should be an N and an S on the dial with the numbers at least thats what is on my EZL dial for my 230E. You want it on S for premium fuel

sorry i meant the timing ezl plug near battery mine is on 2 with mercedes sign on it just wondered if this is right

tried leads and plugs today also checked and cleaned dizzy and rotor all ok

but fault still there one of my mates thinks it may be timing i think it may be o2 sensor as i did the voltage test on diag plug and brought up 50% oxy sensor fault

unplugged sensor no differnce

would this cause stalling and cutting out

Where are you located? Don't touch the ECE plug behind the battery, it usually has a nylon lock on it. The timing adjustment for the EZL is near the shock support by the engine and it looks the same but it has N and S on it along with the numbers.
O2 sensor will not cause a problem when the engine is cold but could cause an issue when warm/hot.

Ok I am going to guess a bad Fuel Pump Relay.
Check this thread and use the instructions to test the relay.

carried out more tests today tested timing with dwell angles found at idle between 7 and 11 degrees and at 3200rpm 44 degrees but with vac pipe disconnected from ign control unit still at 44 but it is supposed to drop to20 24 this shows that coolant temp sensor at fault tested sensor ok and wiring to sensor ok what is going on could it be ign control unit just weird as it only plays up at idle

also did the diag plug test again gor redeaings of 7.07 volts that dropped to 2.6

then if i adjust idle it goes up to 11.6

what ia going on
