i'm getting closer to buying a sub and amp for the trunk.

How important is it that the rear deck lid be removed? cuz i dont wanna alter it and have a hole going to the trunk.

its either i'm getting a single ported 10 or sealed 12 with 1000wrms and about almost the same space for the box.

Which sub setup would get loud if i kept the rear deck untouched?

I have a 15" sealed woofer in my trunk that I installed with the tray still there. Then I ported it and I don't notice a real difference. Depending on how you like your music is how you should do your box. If you port the box it will be louder than a sealed but the bass won't be as sharp. I went with a sealed 15 because with such a large sub I get the "boom" that I want and because it's sealed the bass sounds sharp. The only way I think porting the tray will make any change is if you dynomat the whole trunk to seal it better or if ported the sub from the sub box to the tray.

the thing is, i really dont wanna cut up the rear deck. so is the muffled bass i keep hearing about that bad? i mean if i have a single sub capable of 1000wrms, it should sound googd right? or does the power of the sub not matter with the gas tank in the way?

Yea I'm running 760watts to one 15" and it bumps, I can feel it in my house when its on in the driveway. Just port your box and you should be happy without getting too fancy or anything.

Im running a 1000w rms amp and 2 12" JL subs and the petrol tank dosent get in my way :)
What sub are you getting?
If you port the rear deck you will hear all the rattles and noise the sub makes the bass is loud but will sound terrible I have tried, and my boot has 5 sheets of dynamat in it...

I'm most likely gonna get a mach 5 ixl 12 in a sealed box. was thinking about a ported 10, but the 12 will probably be better for me.

I would go the 12 you can always turn it down if its too much but you cant turn up a 10...

What is there to rattle? I have mine mounted securely to the bottom of the rear deck, no rattles or anything. Just do not bolt it into the fuel tank.

What I did for a port is replace that first aid compartment with a wood frame that has speaker fabric wrapped around it, works great. I will try to get a picture sometime.

Mine are sitting in my boot and fire to the back of the car, im not sure what rattles all I know is that stuff does rattle with my setup when I open the first aid hatch. I was thinking about a port with a speaker cover on it would make it makes it hella loud and look awesome but I dont want to cut my rear deck either...

You would'nt be cutting anything but a plastic tray that pulls out. Either that you make a wood frame like danwatt did and you wouldnt be cutting anything on the car just pulling the plastic tray out.

What does the wooden frame look like, I thought you would still have to cut the flap that covers the plastic tray to make a proper port...

Yea the flap is attached but it's just plastic and would'nt take much to remove or replace. The frame is just a wood frame in place of the plastic tray this is so you can use the speaker fabric I just made the flap into the frame and cut the middle out. It's an easy mod go outside and look at the tray in the trunk and the flap and you will get an idea.

I have had this idea many times, and have removed the tray and tried heaps of setups but decided against them all because you have to cut the flap which is attatched to the rear deck and im not too interested in having to change it one day as its in pefect condition

You do not have to cut the flap, just remove the fabric and tuck it under the deck. The plastic (or maybe cardboard) piece that gives the flap rigidity is glued on.
